DACA Decision
On Wednesday Sept. 13th a federal judge in Texas struck down the DACA program.
What does this mean for DACA Recipients? Nothing has changes based on this decision. Recipients who are eligible to renew DACA can continue to renew and should renew!
What is next? This decision will be appealed and will most likely reach the Supreme Court in the future.
The DACA team is planning to send out community resources and a practice advisory soon. And the Comms Team is working closely with the DACA Team to regularly post relevant information to help DACA recipients.
Staff Attorney Veronica Garcia was part of a Facebook live discussion in Spanish about the ruling, hosted by our partner, Central Valley Immigrant Integration Collaborative (CVIIC). DreamSF Fellow Rojina Pradhan and Media Manager Manny Guisa collaborated on this TikTok video on how California DACA recipients can access support to help pay for DACA filing fees. The video is also posted on Instagram and on Twitter.
We posted the following after the decision was announced:
Social media posts about the decision: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook
Twitter post on the ILRC resource advocating for inclusive work policies
Veronica Garcia was quoted in this Associated Press article that was published in multiple news outlets. She also was interviewed by CBS News Radio—segments of her interview were broadcast by more than 40 radio stations nationwide and are attached. Digital Communications Manager Juan Prieto was interviewed by NPR’s Here and Now about his experiences as a DACA recipient.
